The six lines
  1. Six at the beginning: The army sets out in good order. Without discipline, misfortune.
  2. Nine in the second place: In the midst of the army. Good fortune, no blame. The king honors him three times.
  3. Six in the third place: The army may come back carrying its dead. Misfortune.
  4. Six in the fourth place: The army withdraws to camp. No blame.
  5. Six in the fifth place: There is game in the field; it is right to speak out. No blame. Let the eldest lead the army; if the younger ones lead, they will come back carrying the dead. Persisting brings misfortune.
  6. Six at the top: The great ruler gives his commands, founding states and granting houses. Petty people should not be put in charge.
